Lunafest, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women's issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, will be hosted by the AAUW Butler Branch at 1 p.m. Saturday at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St.

This festival highlights women as leaders in society, illustrated in10 short films by women filmmakers.

The pieces range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women's health, motherhood, body image, sexuality, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.

The films include "Big Girl," "Fim-de-semana (Weekend)," "Sarah in the Dark," "Red Wednesday," "Grappling Girls," "34x25x36," "Kaden," "My First Crush, "The Ladies" and "Kuna Ni Nanang (My Mother Said)."Admission is $5. Proceeds from Lunafest will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund, AAUW Butler Branch and The Art Center.Thus far, Lunafest, which is created and funded by the company that makes Luna nutrition bars for women, has raised more than $670,000 for women's nonprofit organizations.

Playfully competing with her mom's new boyfriend, 9-year-old Josephine learns that letting people in can lead to wonderful things in "Big Girl." This film won the Bravo!Fact Short Cuts Canada Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, Best Short Film at the Floating Film Festival¿the Caribbean and first prize in the children's competition at Interfilm Berlin. It also was screened in the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and Argentina.
