ESPYVILLE — A 23-year-old Western Pennsylvania man will spend between 20 to 40 years in state prison for killing his ex-girlfriend's 11-month-old son.

Eugene Fenton of Espyville was sentenced on Friday. In November, a jury found Fenton guilty of Hunter Shoenberger's death.

Police say Fenton harmed Hunter on Oct. 22 or Oct. 23 while caring for him in a home he shared with the baby's mother, Lisa Burns. Burns was working an overnight shift as a nurse's aide.

Police say Fenton apparently threw the child into his crib, causing the injuries that killed him.

GREENSBURG — A Western Pennsylvania man will spend up to one year in jail for trying to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife's two horses.Thirty-five-year-old Joseph Mendicino of Scottsdale is already in jail for violating a protection-from-abuse order. On Friday, Mendicino pleaded guilty to charges he took out a contract on his estranged wife's horses and tried to run her off the road.Police say Mendicino tried to arrange the hit on the horses from the Westmoreland County Prison.
