Richard G. "Logo-man" Wiest, 84, of Butler died Sunday afternoon at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford.

He was born in Butler, May 5, 1924, a son of the late George and Marie Eythe Wiest.

He had been employed for more than 30 years in the metallurgical lab at the Butler Armco plant.

He had attended Penn State University and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He had been a member of the Lyndora American Legion Post 778, the D.A.V. Chapter 64, was a life honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Butler Council 866 and a life member of the Butler Elks Lodge.

He formerly had been an avid golfer, and while no longer able to play, he had collected more than 18,000 golf balls at his home, many displayed logos but thousands of them were homemade by him.

Richard was a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary June Sweeney Wiest. They married Sept. 14, 1946, and she died Feb. 11, 1992. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Wiest, and by his cherished soulmate, Lorraine Collup, who died Jan. 4, 2004.

Surviving are two nieces, Nancy A. Black of Scott Township and Mary Catherine Sweeney of Carnegie; a nephew, Charles Sweeney of Crafton; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Sweeney of Carnegie; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; nine great-great nieces and great-great-nephews; numerous cousins; and many good friends.

<B>WIEST </B>— Friends of Richard G. Wiest, who died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St. The Rev. Pierre Falkenhan, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at the St. Peter Cemetery.The Women's Council of St. Peter's will recite the rosary at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday at the church.Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter Roman Catholic Church or the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3500 Brooktree Road, Wexford, PA 15090.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
