TARENTUM — Firefighters said they could not rescue a teenage girl from a second-story window when her house caught fire.

Crews this morning were still battling the fire in Tarentum.

Three other people got out of the house. Two got out by themselves, but an elderly woman had to be rescued and was taken to a hospital. She's expected to survive.

The Allegheny County fire marshal was on the scene, trying to determine the cause of the fire.

LANGHORNE — Authorities said a police officer was struck by his own police car and killed after making a traffic stop in suburban Philadelphia.Authorities said Middletown Township police officer Chris Jones died of head injuries at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.Police said Jones was working traffic detail on Route 1 when he stopped a sedan, parking his cruiser behind the vehicle. He appeared to be walking back to his cruiser when he was hit, causing three cars to collide and pinning Jones beneath his vehicle.
