LONDON — Iceland's prime minister says the island nation's coalition government has collapsed amid a deepening financial crisis.

Prime Minister Geir Haarde says talks between the coalition partners broke down.

Foreign Minister Ingibjorg Gisladottir's Social Democratic Alliance Party had threatened recently to withdraw from the government.

Haarde told reporters today he would speak to Iceland's president to formally dissolve the government.
