Michael Horsman, son of Bill and Tina Horsman of Butler Township, recently returned to Camp Pendleton, Calif., after spending the Christmas and New Year holidays at home.The 2007 alumnus of Butler High is awaiting orders for deployment to Iraq.———
Brianna Badali graduated from Air Force basic training Nov. 7, 2008, at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and is attending technical school at Sheppard AFB, Texas, studying to be a dental assistant apprentice.She graduated from Butler High School in June and is the daughter of retired Air Force Master Sgt. Bradley and Barbara Badali of Butler.———In September, Army Pvt.
Zachariah Baker was one of more than 300 Army soldiers who participated in the "Spirit of America 2008" performance to the citizens of Rochester, N.Y., and Worcester, Mass.During the performance, the soldiers, dressed in historical uniforms, re-enacted key moments in the Army and from American history.Baker, a rifleman and assistant gunner with one year of military service, is assigned to the 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), Fort McNair, Washington, D.C.He is the son of Lynn M. Kurtis Knobel II graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.He is the son of the Rev. Kurtis and Connie Knobel of Butler.The private is a 2004 graduate of Laurel High School, New Castle.———Navy Seaman
Daniel Ferri, son of Susan and David Ferri of Seven Fields, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.Ferri, a 2003 graduate of Seneca Valley High School, received a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2007.———Army Capt.
Jessica Whaley arrived for duty at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany.Whaley, a labor and delivery nurse officer with eight years of military service, received the Department of Defense Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nursing Award.She is the daughter of Dalton and Betty Morgan of Butler.Her husband, Michael, is the son of Michael A. and Delores Whaley of Covington, Tenn.The captain graduated in 1995 from Butler High School and received a bachelor's degree in 1999 from Gannon University, Erie.
