Sen. Kennedy released from hospital after seizure

WASHINGTON — Sen. Edward Kennedy was released this morning from the hospital after suffering a seizure during an inaugural luncheon.

Kennedy's office confirmed he left Washington Hospital Center, where he had been resting overnight for observation. A spokeswoman said he was in good spirits and doctors wanted him to get some rest.

Doctors blamed fatigue for the seizure suffered during an inaugural luncheon after hours of events celebrating the swearing-in of President Barack Obama. Kennedy has been under treatment for a brain tumor.

The 76-year-old Massachusetts Democrat was diagnosed in May with a particularly aggressive type of brain tumor for which he has been treated with surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
