Pittsburgh federal prosecutor still on job for now

PITTSBURGH — U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan is remaining on the job temporarily along with all sitting federal prosecutors and U.S. Marshals even as Barack Obama became the 44th president today.

Buchanan spokeswoman Margaret Philbin said the Obama administration has asked prosecutors and marshals to remain on the job for now.

Federal prosecutors serve at the will of the president and are often replaced in new administrations.

Buchanan, a Republican, has said she would be willing to serve in the Obama administration.

Philbin says Buchanan will not comment on her plans until the new administration announces what the future holds for the prosecutors.
