Amy from Indiana asks for my comments on a quote she posted regarding abortion violating the rights of the unborn. My response is that rights can only apply to individuated humans, not potential humans physiologically dependent and connected to another human. It is a misapplication of rights to apply them to an organism entirely resident in another human. Irrespective of viability, until a fetus is individuated from the woman in whom it resides, it has no rights. On the contrary, to forbid the woman the right to terminate her pregnancy is a clear violation of her right to her own body.
