BUTLER TWP— With the game on the line, Christian Dubin toed the line.

The Seneca Valley sophomore point guard scored 11 of his team-high 17 points in the final six minutes, including two critical offensive plays, to lead his team to a 61-53 boys basketball win at Butler Tuesday night.

"He was outstanding down the stretch,"Butler coach Joe Lewandowski said. "That's the sign of a pretty good player."

The Raiders (8-5, 4-2) built a 34-20 lead by halftime, but were outscored by 10 in the third quarter. A free throw by Brian Jendesky pulled the Golden Tornado (5-8, 1-5) to within 44-41 with six minutes to play.

"In section play in Quad-A basketball, a 14-point halftime lead doesn't mean anything,"Seneca Valley coach Vic Giannotta said. "We knew they were going to make a run at us."

Durbin not only stopped that run, he turned it around the other way.

With 5:47 left, he drained a 3-pointer from the right corner. Seconds later, he drove the lane, laid the ball in and was fouled.

Durbin sank the free throw and the Raiders' lead suddenly stood at 50-41 with 5:23 left. Butler never got closer than six points the rest of the way.

"That was the turning point of the game, no doubt,"Lewandowski said of Durbin's consecutive three-point possessions. "The game went from us being able to tie it on one possession to almost a double-digit deficit."

Durbin was only too happy to contribute offensively.

"Nothing was happening offensively for us in the second half," he said. "That (3-pointer) seemed to get us going.

"They began pressing us and I love dribbling through fullcourt pressure. I enjoy doing that more than scoring points."

The Raiders put the game away at the foul line, sinking 10 of 13 free throws in the final quarter. Durbin was a big part of that as well, hitting six of seven at the line.

Matt Vogt contributed 12 points for Seneca Valley while Nate Herrmann added 11. C.J. Brown had seven of his team's 17 rebounds.

The Raiders turned the ball over six times to Butler's 13.

"We got back to doing some running in the fourth quarter and got back on track,"Giannotta said. "Butler did a good job of taking us out of our offense in the third period."

Seneca Valley scored only seven points in the quarter.

Jendesky paced Butler with 17 points and eight rebounds. Bobby Swartwout had 12 points and eight boards after being limited to two points and only two shots in the first half.

Jeff Tompkins had 12 points for Butler, sinking six of seven shots from the floor.

"We can't worry about what our section record is right now," Lewandowski said. "The section is still pretty jumbled up. (We must) concentrate on winning the next game and keep getting better."
