Dorothy Mae Woods
Dorothy F. Woods, 96, died peacefully Nov. 24 in Seattle, Wash.
Dorothy was born Jan. 15, 1912, on a small farm in West Sunbury, to Oscar Fleeger and Theresa Grace (Renick) Fleeger, the fourth of nine children.
Dorothy graduated from Butler High School and from secretarial school in Scarsdale, N.Y.
While working at Hackley School in Tarrytown, N.Y., she met Frank Woods, a teacher at the school. They were married July 25, 1943. They settled in Kingston, R.I., in 1956, where Frank joined the faculty at the University of Rhode Island. They were active in the Kingston Congregational Church as well as town and university organizations, and enjoyed traveling and researching the Fleeger genealogy. Frank died Aug. 22, 1990.
Dorothy lived in Seattle for the past six years, most recently in an assisted living facility, where everyone loved her smile and gentle laughter. Although Dorothy's short-term memory was shaky the last few years, her memories of growing up remained vivid, and she could tell wonderful stories of long-ago people in the towns and country around Butler. When told a few weeks ago her baby brother, Richard, was celebrating his 80th birthday, she exclaimed, "Oh no, that can't be right!"
Dorothy is survived by her children, Lesley Solkoske of Meriden, Conn., and David Woods and Phyllis Christianson (Scott) of Seattle; grandchildren Renick Woods (Elizabeth), Jesse Woods, Megan Harvey, Emily Christianson (Shaylee) and Lindsay Bagley (Elliot); a great-grandson, Owen; her brother, Richard Fleeger (Audrey) and sister-in-law, Ruth Fleeger of Butler; sister-in-law, Mildred Moseley of Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
