Butler-based architectural firm Burt Hill announced 50 layoffs in its Pittsburgh office.

J. Rossi, Burt Hill's chief marketing officer, said Thursday the layoffs affect the firm's international studio, which works with Burt Hill's office in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

The jobs cut Thursday include architects, creative services personnel, engineers and support staff.

Rossi said no layoffs are planned for the Butler office, although the firm in November cut 18 jobs in multiple offices.

"At this point, with the economy so unsure, it is hard to predict what might happen, but we can hope things get better quickly," Rossi said.

Burt Hill has 14 offices worldwide with more than 1,200 employees.
