Area artists are the mainstay of the new Bottlebrush Gallery and Shop, 539 Main St. in Harmony.

The work of more than 20 artists is featured, including paintings, glass, jewelry and pottery.

Displaying her watercolors and pastels in an exhibit called "Painting Simple Moments" is Maria Leysens of Adams Township. Her work will be displayed until at least Jan. 18.

Leysens will conduct a one-day watercolor workshop for those age 16 and older from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 17. She has already led a children's workshop.

She is a member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and Pittsburgh Pastel Artists League.

Bottlebrush Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays; closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Call 724-452-0539.

Slippery Rock artist Emma Thompson-Green will be featured as the artist of the month for January at the Blue Heron Art Gallery at 600 Main St. in Volant, near the historic Volant Mill.

Her show is called "Stationary Journies: Exploring the Self and Its Counterparts" and will be on display through Jan. 25. A reception is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday; refreshments and music are planned.

Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
