The Butler County Symphony Association will host its own "Symphony Idol" contest at 2 p.m. Jan. 25 at Butler County Community College's Succop Theater.

It's really the 30th annual Young Artist Competition, but guests may view the competition between the five young musicians. Admission is free.

This contest names the top candidate of the area's college-age artists. Five made the cut from 21 applicants to compete in the finals this year.

The winner will receive $400 and an opportunity to perform with the Butler County Symphony Orchestra at the concert on March 14. Also at the competition, an "audience favorite" will be selected and receive $100.

Steven Cosnek of Coraopolis, a vocalist from Indiana (Pa.) University•

Christiana Howell of Erie, a voice performance/music education major at Slippery Rock University•

Katelyn Olsen of Felton, an oboist and music education major at Indiana (Pa.) University•

Justin Ryan Polyblank of Scottdale, an alto saxophonist and music education major at Indiana (Pa.)
