Michael A. Terek
Michael A. Terek, 94, of Valencia died peacefully Monday in UPMC Passavant Hospital.
Born Jan. 12, 1914, in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Michael and Berti (Vondena) Terek, both born in Czechoslovakia, and stepson of the late Anna (Simal) Terek.
A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, Michael was stationed in Oregon, where he served on both a submarine and a blimp.
He came home to work in the steel industry for many years, was a member of Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills and belonged to the Slovak Catholic Sokol in Beaver Falls.
Michael loved sports, playing baseball, basketball and softball in his youth.
While living in an orphanage in Beaver Falls, he met Babe Ruth, a memory he treasured his whole life. Years later, Michael was personally invited to tryout for the Pittsburgh Pirates by Honus Wagner.
Michael enjoyed dancing, especially the polka, watching sports on television and viewing Mass on EWTN.
He was the beloved husband of the late Severina M. (Rubrecht) Terek, who died Aug. 16, 2004; dear father of Ambrose J. Polena, Rose Marie (Polena) Bailey and Paul Terek, all of Valencia, Martin Terek of Arvada, Colo., and Dolores Terek of Lexington, Ky.; brother of Mary Terek Slovak and the late Stephen Terek; and stepbrother of Agnes Rosenkranz and Margie Bross. Also surviving are six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Terek, who died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>Schellhaas Funeral Home</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Albert J. Semler as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Sepulcher Church Building Fund, 1304 E.
