HARMONY — Harmony has multiple events scheduled through the Harmony Museum in 2009.

They include:

• Annual Harmoniefest fundraiser dinner and historical program, 6 p.m. Feb. 14, in the museum's Stewart Hall. The dinner and program commemorate Harmony's 1804 founding by German Lutheran Separatists organized as the communal Harmony Society.

The 1830 Old Economy Orchestra and Old Economy Singers from Old Economy Village, the state-operated historic site at nearby Ambridge that was the Harmony Society's final home 1824-1905, will perform. The musicians play instruments identical to those of the early 1800s, and they and the vocalists appear in authentic Harmonist costume.

Reservations are required.

• German dinner April 18, Aug. 22 and Oct. 10 in Stewart Hall. Diners may bring their own beverage.

Reservations are required for either of two seatings, 4:30 or 6:15 p.m.

• Annual "Quilt in a Day" program, 10 a.m. to noon May 26, in Stewart Hall. presented by Patricia Knoechel, author and co-author of quilting books with sister and internationally syndicated television quilter Eleanor Burns.

Reservations are recommended.

• Annual Herb & Garden Fair, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13, at the museum's historic 1805 barn annex, 303 Mercer Road. Exchange plants or buy from specialty vendors. Lunch will be available.

• Annual Antique Gun Show, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 8 in Stewart Hall. See flintlock, percussion and cartridge firearms and accouterments made before 1898, many for sale, with special focus on those made in the region such as the fine long rifles of Harmony's Charles Flowers.

• Annual WeihnachtMarkt, a German-style Christmas Market, Nov. 14 and 15, at which dozens of regional artisans and vendors present a taste of German holiday season tradition by offering shopping for artwork, handcrafted goods, toys and other wares as well as German imports.

• Washington Mission Commemoration planned for Nov. 28 but subject to change. This event will celebrate the anniversary of 21-year-old Virginia Maj. George Washington's 1753 mission seeking French withdrawal from the territory, precipitating the French & Indian War. The war's first shot was fired at Washington by a "French Indian" several miles to the east, missing its mark.

• Annual elegant dinner following self-tours of Christmas-decorated museum buildings, Dec. 13. Dinner at 5 p.m. requires reservations; cost includes tour admission.

• New Year's Eve celebration on German time, 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 31. Activities include museum tours, pork and sauerkraut buffet, continuous comedy short film "Dinner for One" and Bleigiessen — melted lead shapes supposed to predict what the new year will bring.

The community celebration begins with a 2 p.m. 5K run and includes entertainment in the town diamond; fireworks are planned at 6 p.m. — midnight in Germany.

The museum had guided tours available from 1 to 4 p.m. daily except Mondays and holidays; reservations are suggested for weekends and required for groups.
