Anne H. Synowsky

Synowsky

Mrs. Anne H. Synowsky, formerly of Butler and the widow of Maj. John Synowsky, Ret., died in her sleep Tuesday morning in Weatherford, Texas.

Born in Curtisville on Sept. 9, 1922, she was the daughter of Andre and Maria Hallahan.

Anne graduated from Lyndora High School in 1941. Her first job was at the S.S. Kresge's store. She also worked during World War II at the Bantam factory, home of the first Jeep.

She spent almost 60 years of her life in the Butler area. She was married in St. John's Greek Catholic Church in Lyndora on June 15, 1946, and as a military spouse, managed to live in Alaska, California, Japan, Texas, and Augusta, Ga.

Anne was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Michael J. Kosar Post 778 of Lyndora, and for many years served as its historian. Anne was a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church and was a past president of the Church Ladies Guild.

Aside from her volunteer work at the church, the Legion and the Butler County Council, she managed to build a log home with her husband in Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1951, and enjoyed ice and roller skating as well as bowling. She even attempted a brief parachuting career off of her garage as a child with an umbrella to break her fall.

In 85 years, Anne traveled to the places she studied about in her favorite class, geography. She crossed the Pacific Ocean in a ship with two young boys and with her husband in a jet across the Atlantic Ocean to attend her daughter's wedding in the German Alps.

She is survived by her sister, Mary H. Marchuck, of Lyndora; two sons, John Andrew Synowsky and his wife, Ann, of Fort Worth, Texas, and William Andrew Synowsky of Newport Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Joanne S. Walter and her husband, Andre Walter, of Blue Ridge, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Hallahan of Butler. She had five beloved grandsons, John, William, James, Joseph and John as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maj. John Synowsky, U.S. Army retired, who died March 27, 1985; and two brothers.

Her niece, Mary Huegel will play a violin solo of "Amazing Grace" at the funeral service.

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. — Albert Einstein
