Staff Sgt. 'Jack' Turner

Staff Sgt.

John "Jack" Turner, a 2001 graduate of Knoch High School, will be honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force on Jan. 1 after seven years of service.He attended boot camp at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and then trained in explosive ordinance disposal at Eglin Air Force Base, Valaparaiso, Fla.The sergeant served three deployments in Iraq and has been awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, two Army Commendation Medals, a Navy Achievement Medal and an Air Force Combat Action Medal.After his discharge, he will be a civilian instructor for the Joint Service Explosive Ordinance Disposal School at Eglin Air Force Base.His parents reside in the Butler area.———Army National Guard Pvt.

Alicia Kniess graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C., under the split-option enlistment program to serve as a member of the Army National Guard or Reserve.She is the daughter of Marcella Shay of Butler.Kniess is a student at Butler High School.———Air Force Airman
