ROSSTWP — The good news for North Hills was it trailed Butler 15-13 early in the second quarter of Thursday's high school girls basketball game.

That was the end of the good news.

The Tornado closed out the final seven minutes of the first half on a 15-1 run, then used a 21-0 outburst in the second half to cruise to a 59-20 victory over the Indians in a Section 3-AAAA contest

"We knew (North Hills) was not deep, so we knew with our full-out pressure they would tire," said Butler coach Dorothea Epps. "We got scores off turnovers. We went to our 1-3-1 defense and that bothered them."

Butler (4-0) outscored the Indians 44-7 over the final 23 minutes of play, but North Hills showed some feistiness early in the game.

Trailing 14-8, the Indians' Katy Turzak sank a free throw and Emma Wingerd added a basket, then Butler's Katresa Savisky added a free throw to make it 15-11. When Turzak added a score, the deficit was down to two points.

Then, the Tornado took over.

Six different Butler players scored in the 15-1 run, including a 3-pointer by Amanda Dymun with 3:24 left that capped a string of nine consecutive Tornado points.

"All the kids are playing their role," said Epps. "They all do what they need to do. We can bring in girls who can rebound, get to the hole, get some shots.

"We're a well-rounded team and everyone's contributing,"Epps added.

It didn't help the Indians (1-3) when Gabby Marshall picked up her third foul with 6:24 remaining. She stayed in for another minute, then sat out the rest of the first half.

Butler opened the second half by scoring eight of the first 10 points, including a pair of baskets by Olivia Bresnahan, who would finish with a game-high 19 points, to take a 38-16 lead.

Marshall scored to make it a 20-point game, but Butler reeled off 21 consecutive points for a 59-18 lead with 2:55 remaining.

The Indians' Kayla Ebbert broke the run with a score with 2:31 remaining, which proved to be the final score of the night.

Dymun added 12 points for Butler, which had nine different players reach the scoring column.

"I'm really pleased with the direction we're going," said Epps. "We got our first section win and it was on the road and that's always a plus."
