The Butler County Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Elisabeth Heath Charles, will present its annual holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the auditorium of Butler Intermediate High School, 551 Fairground Hill Road.

Following the symphony's 60th anniversary diamond jubilee theme, this concert is titled "Holiday Gems" and will encompass a collection of crowd favorites and seasonal classics.

Starting the show will be "Around the World at Christmas Time," an arrangement including "O Tannenbaum," "Infant Holy," "O Sanctissima," "Hanukkah Song" and "Go Tell It on the Mountain," among others.

The next number will be "Twas the Night Before Christmas," an imaginative piece written by the symphony's Composer of the Year, Drew Fennell.

Another highlight will be several holiday selections by the Hill Youth Chorale, directed by Kathy Sawyer. They will sing "White Christmas," "Angels We Have Heard" and "What Child Is This?"

Then the audience will be invited to join a sing-along of holiday pops favorites. The Christmas classic "Sleigh Ride" will close the show.

The symphony has recorded a two-disc live compilation celebrating its 60th anniversary season. Copies of "A Diamond Jubilee" will be available at the Holiday Gems concert or any other 2008-09 performance, or visit the symphony association office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The CD costs $16, and proceeds directly benefit the symphony association.
