BC3 pioneer honored
BUTLER TWP— Former Butler County Community College athletic director Chuck Dunaway recently was inducted into the Region XX National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
The 12th annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony took place Nov. 8 at Hagerstown Community College in Maryland.
Dunaway became the 38th person to join the Hall of Fame and is its lone inductee this year.
Dunaway began the athletic program at BC3 with the school's first intercollegiate basketball game Feb. 15, 1968, against the Community College of Beaver County. He served as athletic director for 32 years and coached many of the school's teams, including basketball, golf, tennis, cross country and baseball.
He also was a founder of the Skyline Athletic Conference and Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association.
After retiring as athletic director in 1999, Dunaway has remained active at BC3 as the co-coach of the golf team since 2004.
