Pennsylvania Senate Republicans recently voted on their leadership team for the 2009-10 legislative session, re-electing Sen.

Jane Orie, R-40th, to her second term as the third-highest position of majority whip.Sen.

Bob Robbins, R-50th, also was re-elected to a new term as Senate majority caucus secretary.Orie's leadership duties include acting as assistant floor leader, working to gain support for legislation and assuring that Republican policies and strategies are maintained by the majority caucus.In his post, Robbins will oversee all executive nominations submitted to the Senate for confirmation. He also will coordinate the review of the background and experience of nominees and ensure that proper documentation is submitted.Other members of the GOP leadership team are Sens. Joe Scarnati, R-Jefferson, president pro tempore; Dominic Pileggi, R-Delaware, majority leader; Jake Corman, R-Centre, appropriations committee chairman; and Mike Waugh, R-York, majority caucus chairman———With rifle deer season to open Monday, state Rep.

Dick Stevenson, R-8th, is encouraging successful hunters to share a portion of their harvest with those in need.Every year, Pennsylvania deer hunters donate thousands of pounds of venison to food banks and soup kitchens through the Hunters Sharing the Harvest program, Stevenson noted.The program is sponsored by Pennsylvanians for the Responsible Use of Animals and it cooperates with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the state Department of Agriculture, and several sportsmen's organizations.Program boosters ask hunters to donate anything from a few pounds of venison to a whole deer to help needy Pennsylvanians.To contribute to the program, call 866-474-2141.
