Charles Fayer Jr.
Charles Fayer Jr., 84 years of age, of Valencia, formerly of Monessen, went peacefully Wednesday at Windsor Place in Gibsonia.
He was born in Monessen Feb. 18, 1924, to Mary and Charles Fayer Sr.
He went to Monessen Elementary School and was an avid baseball player. Mr. Fayer graduated from Monessen High School in 1942.
A year later, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Jan. 25, 1943. After serving his country, he returned home and later became employed with Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, where he worked for the next 34 years. He retired from the mill in 1977.
He was a good person and a great friend to everyone who knew him. He will be missed.
Mr. Fayer loved to sing, as he was a member of the Barbershop group, "The Mon Valley Chordsmen." He was also a great card player.
He is survived by a sister, Mary Weimer of Houston, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, the late Ann; and four brothers, the late John, Mike, Stephen and George.
He will be missed by his family and all who loved him, especially by his friend and companion, Marie Cortopassi, as he was very much a part of her family.
<B>FAYER</B> — Friends of Charles Fayer Jr., who died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Schellhaas Funeral Home</B>, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, where a blessing service will be at 11 a.m. Monday.
