Dr. Alison Kliber of Butler was recently selected as one of 10 people to receive the 2008 Duquesne University Mind, Heart and Spirit Award.Mind, Heart and Spirit Awards recognize Duquesne alumni who exemplify the pillars of the university's mission — academic excellence, moral and spiritual values, ecumenism and diversity, service and world concerns. Kliber was honored for her contributions and accomplishments related to ecumenism.Kliber received her bachelor's degree in 1985 in biology from Duquesne. As an undergraduate, she participated in volunteer missions serving migrant farm workers in Mexico and Florida. Kliber's experiences inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. She earned a residency scholarship from the National Health Service Corps and the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Fellowship for graduate students in health-related professions who are dedicated to addressing unmet needs.Kliber is now a physician with the faith-based East Liberty Family Health Care Center, which serves impoverished and uninsured residents of the East Liberty, Garfield, Larimer and Lincoln-Lemington neighborhoods. She also volunteers her time as a mentor to current Schweitzer Fellows at Pittsburgh universities.Duquesne's Mind, Heart and Spirit honorees receive tickets to a Steelers game and congratulations on the Jumbotron scoreboard as well as in Steelers Radio Network game day broadcasts. Kliber was recognized Nov. 16 during the Steelers' game against San Diego at Heinz Field.———
<B>Students at Emily Brittain Elementary School </B>in the Butler School District collected 1,127 food items during the school's Thanksgiving food drive.During the week of Nov. 3, classes competed against each other to collect food for the Covenant Food Cupboard.———

Photographers <B>Bill Penberthy </B>and<B> Amber Songer </B>were awarded blue ribbons for their entries in the Triangle Photographers Association Annual Print Competition Oct. 26 to 28 in Pittsburgh.Penberthy received blue ribbons in the illustrative category for his images titled "Winds of Change" and "Modern Art" as well as a Judge's Choice Award.Songer was awarded a blue ribbon and Judge's Choice Award for her image "Life in the Fast Lane" and the trophy for Best Illustrative Image for "Floral Study."Penberthy is the owner of Penberthy Studio in Zelienople, where Songer of Cranberry Township has worked as an assistant for five years.The Triangle Photographers Associated is comprised of more than 200 professional photographers from Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. The award-winning prints are currently displayed at Penberthy Studio in Zelienople.———
The Butler County Rotary Club recently held a <B>Turkey Roundup</B>, which provided an early Thanksgiving dinner Nov. 16 at Parker Personal Care for patients, families and guests.Parker Personal Care, an affiliate of the Butler YWCA, provides 24-hour assisted service to 35 frail elderly people.The combined Rotary clubs have raised $245,000 for the project since 1992. County Commissioner Dale Pinkerton is founder and honorary chairman of the Turkey Roundup committee.———

Nearly 200 people attended the <B>Kids N Power</B> safety program Nov. 8 presented by the state police, the Sarver Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company and Makowski's ATAMartial Arts academy at the academy in Sarver.Presentations were structured to prepare children to be safe at home, school, in their neighborhoods and at the mall. They also learned about stranger danger.———
