Both the Karns City and Slippery Rock football teams are still alive in the high school playoffs.

Of course, if I were a football team, I wouldn't have even sniffed the postseason.

I went 0-2 last week, putting my money on Moniteau (bad idea) and Sharon (even worse idea).

Instead, Karns City won 42-9 and Slippery Rock dominated Sharon in the second half on the way to a 27-10 victory.

I won't be fooled this week. Of course, I have said that before and look what has happened.

I stink worse than the St. Louis Rams.

Karns City 29, NorthStar 20 — The Gremlins get the first crack at the PIAA playoffs when they play District 5 champion North Star (insert astronomy joke here).The Cougars bumped up to Class AA from single-A a year ago and are a legitimate threat to upset Karns City.Both teams are very similar and very balanced.But how can you go against Karns City? In just the last month, the Gremlins have upset Wilmington (more on them later) and dismantled Moniteau.AnthonyStimac, Karns City's senior quarterback, is as cool as the arctic. The dude never gets rattled.Markus LaVan is scary fast. Levi Buck is like and overgrown water bug, but pound-for-pound is the scariest pass rusher this side of Joey Porter.Karns City has it all working now and NorthStar just isn't in the same constellation as the Gremlins.Sorry. I couldn't pass up a NorthStar joke.•

Wilmington 32, Slippery Rock 20 — The last time these two teams met, Wilmington had its way with the overmatched Rockets.But both teams have evolved since that October matchup.The Greyhounds became human in their loss toKarns City. Slippery Rock found a lethal three-headed running game in quarterback Jono Powell and wingbacks-fullbacks Justin Angerett and Isaac Osborne.All three are running behind an offensive line that is moving more people upfront than, well, Greyhound.I would not be surprised if the Rockets put a scare into Wilmington this time around. It certainly won't be a mercy rule game.But Wilmington is Wilmington and the Greyhounds are focused on winning a district title.Too bad for Slippery Rock, which has had a magical season with a senior group that has played with guts and moxie rarely seen these days.If I only had the same moxie when making these picks.Scoop went winless last week, which makes him a leading candidate to be either the Detroit Lions general manager or the Oakland Raiders head coach next season.
