GM is almost bankrupt. Why? Ask any pundit. It's because of legacy costs of their retirees benefits. The thing about it is, what do you do about it? Take away their benefits? These people worked their whole lives to get these benefits - they earned them.. But now what? China, Korea, Japan - they don't offer these benefits. China pays $8.00/day and have no OSHA to make sure their workers are safe. They can make cars for 1/3 of what we can, so what do we do... Let 2.5 million people loose their jobs because of legacy benefits?

Your job is funded by property taxes. I pay over $3000/year in property taxes. My house is nothing fancy. 3 bedrooms, vinyl siding, yet I pay a fortune in property taxes, why? To fund your benefits. It is getting to the point where people can't afford their houses, and are loosing them. What then..no property taxes? So people who pay their taxes will have to bear the burden and pay more...why? So you can have cheap benefits.

It's a vicious circle, and it has to stop. Sure, you don't want to give up what you had. Nobody does, but it's getting to the point where everyone has to give up something. The only difference is you are using the children as a pawn.

Next time you hear about GM on the news, see yourself in the reflection...
