Again, I receive no benefits as a sub. That includes eye, dental, life, health etc... So, no I am not getting anything from the state thank you. I get my health only benefits from my husband's health insurance and pay cash for the dentist and eye care.

I am not in a teacher's union so I don't have access or can quote from a union.

As for the comment in regards to hiring all new teachers, good luck with that. As people who are involved in unions know, you don't cross lines. The only reason I know that is because my husband is in a union. The union has made it possible that he makes a decent wage and has benefits for his family. It gives us security to know that he will not come into the shop and find out he was fired because he makes too much or he is too old.

As for private schools, I have applied or have looked into those schools. Catholic schools will not hire people who are not catholic. I would apply to schools like St. Luke's, however, it doesn't make sense to drive that distance from Slippery Rock. I will look into the two private schools local to Slippery Rock. I wanted to make a comment about the cyber charter schools. For some children and families it is a great choice; however, you need to know your child's personality before making such a step. First of all, I am a teacher, but when it comes to my daughter, I can not work with her day to day as her teacher. We clash personality wise and it would never work out. Secondly, an adult must be with their child the entire time they are doing cyber school. So if you are a two income family cyber school might not be a good choice. The cost of cyber charter schools are very expensive to school districts. If every student did this, taxes in the school district will certainly be raised to pay the charter schools. Don't forget about the social aspect of it also. Many student's drive to attend school is to see their friends. If you remove that then you will have one upset child. The parents are responsible for the various aspects like physical education, arts, and music. Parents need to make sure the cyber schools are accredited so if a child graduates from it colleges and universities will accept it. If a child goes back and forth between public and cyber schools it will cause inconsistency with their learning. Don't make that decision lightly is what I am getting at.

In closing, I really admire the young lady who wrote to the editor from Knoch High School. As I shared in an earlier blog, it is the students that strikes affect the most. The negative attitudes linger, they will not go away even after the contract dispute is over. Good luck Brittany.
