Big Ed, When I started college, I did consider being a teacher. But I had heard teachers don't make very much, so I changed my mind and now am a software engineer.

That's the thing. It is (Wrongly!) well publicized that teachers make less than other professions, yet these people wanted to be teachers - knowing all the while they would make less. -in other states, they do make less, but not in Western Pennsylvania. For some strange and unknown reason, these teachers' demands are met and now they make quite a bit more than teachers from other areas.
