Indian Motorcycle to open Rt. 19 dealership
CRANBERRY TWP — A former iconic American motorcycle manufacturer hopes to recapture its former glory.
Indian Motorcycle is opening a number of new dealerships across the United States, including one on Route 19.
The township supervisors approved plans Thursday for a new 3,500-square-foot Indian Motorcycle dealership in the Mashuda building at 21101 Route 19.
Dealership representative Rob Mellon said he plans to have new Indian motorcycles in his new showroom at the southern end of the existing office building by the end of December.
The prices on the motorcycles will range from $31,000 to $36,000.
According to the company's Web site, it has goals of producing a new Chief using modern fuel-injection.
Founded in 1901, the Indian brand is America's first motorcycle.
The company went into bankruptcy in 2003, but in 2006, newly formed Indian Motorcycle, owned largely by Stellican Limited, a London-based private equity firm, announced its new home in Kings Mountain, N.C.
Other dealerships have opened or plan to open in Atlanta; Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Detroit; Denver; Minneapolis, Minn.; and Los Angeles.
