During the strike in Seneca Valley I was proteacher. Every day as I traveled to Mars through Evans City I beeped my horn in support. I felt they deserved the pay increase. However, when I went back into the schools and subbed for the district I felt the tention between the teachers, staff and most of all the students. Most children reflected the opinions of their parents. In turn this caused a great deal of disrespect and ill feelings towards the teachers. This is a result that went unmentioned after the strike ended.

I really hope that both the school board and teachers keep this in mind as they go back and forth with negotiations.

Finally, I don't understand why a school district that is on strike still participates in sports. For the most part, coaches on sports teams are teachers in the district. I am sorry to say this, but perhaps the school board would be more inclined to negotiate when it disrupts the precious sports programs.
