When push came to shove, Knoch shoved hardest.

The Knights rallied for a 3-1 WPIAL Class AA girls volleyball playoff victory over Burrell Tuesday night.

Knoch (9-7) dropped the first game 25-19 before winning the final three games by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-18.

"We were trailing late in that second game,"Knoch coach Diane Geist said. "Our girls made some critical plays at critical times in that game.

"You don't want to fall behind 2-0. We came pretty close there."

Sara Montgomery had 11 kills and four blocks for the Knights while Jamie Antoszyk had 10 kills.

Julia Klenfelder had 13 service points and five kills, and Jessica Cross had 10 service points.

Knoch plays at Indiana Thursday night.

Josh Grenninger was getting it done as a goalkeeper, but he was needed elsewhere.

In a bold move, Karns City coach Roy Parker moved his starting keeper to offense after his Gremlins fell behind Northern Potter 1-0 in the first half.

The move paid off when Grenninger scored the tying goal 12 minutes into the second half and the Gremlins won it on a goal by freshman Adam Garing in overtime as Karns City claimed a 2-1 thriller in the District 9 Class A playoffs.

Joe King moved to keeper after the Grenninger switch and made three dazzling saves in overtime.

Karns City will await the winner of the Redbank Valley-DuBois Central Catholic match, which will be played Thursday.

Should No. 1 seed Redbank Valley win, the match will be played on the Bulldogs' home field. If No. 9 DuBois wins, Karns City will be the host.
