John Calvin Williams
John Calvin Williams, 87, of Main Street, Bruin, passed away at 8 a.m. Friday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
He was born in Petrolia on March 10, 1921, and was a son of Clarence McGinnis Williams and Helen Marie Stoops Williams.
He was a member of the Bruin United Methodist Church and the Parker City Lodge 521.
He served with the U.S. Navy Reserves, attaining the rank of Ensign, and was a naval aviation navigator.
He graduated from the Karns City High School, Class of 1939, the California State Teachers College with a bachelor's degree in math and industrial arts in 1943 and then received his masters certificate in education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1952.
He retired from Karns City School District after 37 years of teaching math and industrial arts.
He enjoyed camping, traveling, his grandchildren and his Yorkies.
He married the former Beverly Louise Stewart on June 3, 1949, in the Fairview United Presbyterian Church, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 2007.
Surviving him are a daughter, Georjean Marie Coco and husband, David, of Winchester, Va.; a son, Gregory Stewart Williams of Wilmington, Del.; eight grandchildren, Melissa Ann Williams, his granddaughter and caregiver, of Bruin, Alycia Trapp of Rockhill, S.C., Jessica Coco of Watertown, Mass., Emily Mulholland and her husband, Chris, of Cross Junction, Va., Amanda Trapp of Williamsport, Md., Austin Coco of Winchester, Va., John Calvin Williams III of East Butler and Bridgett Hinderliter of Chicora.
Preceding him in death along with his wife and parents were two half-brothers, DeLoss Williams and Oris Williams.
<B>WILLIAMS</B> — Friends of John Calvin Williams, who died Friday, Sept. 19, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>RICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERALHOME</B>, Petrolia. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Wade Berkey, pastor of the Bruin United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment with follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the American Legion and the VFW of Chicora.Memorial contributions may be made to the Bruin Volunteer Fire Department, Bruin, PA 16022.
