JACKSON TWP — Matt Yoklic might not be able to throw the ball anymore, but he sure can kick it.

The Pine-Richland senior quarterback sustained a shoulder injury in the first game of the season and has been relegated to punting duties ever since.

But on Friday night, he twice pinned Seneca Valley deep in its own end in the final quarter.

The second boot came with 1:18 left in the game and pinned SV at its own 3-yard line.

Raiders quarterback C.J. Brown, forced to throw from his own end zone, was intercepted near midfield on third down, preserving a 17-14 win for the Rams and eliminating SV from playoff contention.

The Raiders had spent their final timeout on defense before Yoklic's punt.

"With no time outs left, even if we had gotten the ball at the 20 with a touchback, we still would've had to throw," said Butschle. "But backed up with (97) yards to go, maybe you have a different mentality."

Earlier in the quarter, Yoklic put the Raiders back to their own 4-yard line before a SV drive that ended with the Raiders turning the ball over on downs near midfield.

"He can't lift his arm above his head, but he's been punting like that all year for us," Rams coach Clair Altemus said. "I can't say enough about the kid."

Pine-Richland took the lead in the fourth quarter on Eric Kordenbrock's second touchdown pass of the game to T.J. Kuban.

After catching four passes for 107 yards in the first half, Kuban made the most of his lone catch in the final two quarters, snagging a 30-yard scoring pass to put the Rams up 17-14 with 11:09 to play.

The officials originally threw a flag on the play, thinking Kordenbrock was past the line of scrimmage when he let go of the ball, but the flag was picked up.

Seneca Valley's special teams struggled again in a close game.

The one bright spot was Evan Hetzel's 90-yard kickoff return for a score that gave the Raiders a 14-10 lead late in the third quarter.

But Will Hugo's extra-point attempt was blocked.

Hugo also had a 34-yard field goal attempt blocked on the final play of the first half, as the Raiders went to the locker room with a slim 8-7 lead.

But it was a 24-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter that turned ugly for the Raiders.

The snap was off the mark, and holder Chris Dorogy gained control of the ball and rolled out to his right.

Looking for an open man downfield, Dorogy was hit just as he threw the ball. Pine-Richland's Dan Cannon intercepted it and ran 70 yards to the Raiders' 15.

"Chris was out there trying to make a play," said Butschle. "I'm not going to fault him for that."

The Rams ended up getting a 32-yard field goal by Greg Langer for a 10-8 edge.

Kordenbrock and Kuban hooked up for the game's first score on a 20-yard touchdown pass with 1:35 left in the first quarter.

Kordenbrock completed seven of 20 passes for 173 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

He began the season as the Rams' third-string quarterback.

"He's still making some mistakes," said Altemus. "But he is emerging as a good quarterback."

The Raiders answered with a 10-play, 80-yard drive that ended with Tyler Mack's 3-yard scoring run early in the second quarter.

Mack added a two-point conversion run, but later left the game with a leg injury.

Notes: Pine-Richland senior tight end Tyler Williams was taken off the field on a stretcher late in the third quarter. He was conscious and had movement in his extremities. ... Brown broke Van Walker's single-season passing yardage record for the Raiders. His 215 yards Friday give him 2,002 on the season. Walker passed for 1,890 yards in 1967 ... Matt Plautz caught seven passes for 131 yards, as he broke his own single-season receptions record. Catching 51 passes last year, Plautz now has 57 catches in 2008.
