RUSSELLTON — The Freeport football team has its eyes focused on the playoffs.

The Yellowjackets, who swarmed Deer Lakes on offense and defense on the way to a 63-7 rout Friday night, are close to accomplishing that goal.

"We have one more game to get into the playoffs," said Freeport coach JohnGaillot. "At this point, every game is a playoff game."

Freeport (5-3) took one more emphatic step against the Lancers (2-6) when it held Deer Lakes to 115 total yards. The only negative for Freeport was nine penalties for 80 yards assessed against it.

On the other hand, Deer Lakes didn't help its cause when it lost three fumbles and threw two interceptions.

Freeport's Andrew Teorsky took the opportunity to score three times in the first quarter, racking up 68 yards on three touchdown runs for a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, the Lancers answered when Geoff Landry hit Zac Capan with a 49-yard pass for their only score of the game.

On the ensuing kickoff, Freeport's Andrew Vidra returned the kick 99 yards for an apparent touchdown, but the play was called back because of a personal foul.

Two holding penalties on Freeport killed the drive.

No matter, though. The Yellowjackets had no shortage of scoring opportunities.

The Lancers gave the ball right back to Freeport when a Landry pass was tipped and intercepted by Tom Blythe. The Yellowjackets converted the interception into a fourth touchdown run by Teorsky to go into halftime with a 35-7 lead.

Teorsky scored his fifth TD on a 69-yard run on the first play of the second half.

Freeport was at it again in the fourth quarter as Alan Wisniewski scored on a 43-yard run and then Shawn Liberto flew down the field for a TD after picking off a pass from Deer Lakes quarterback Patrick Jones.

All in all, the effort pleased Gaillot. He was not pleased with the penalties, however.

"We have to fix the problem to remain competitive," Gaillot said. "They get too aggressive at times."

Teorsky rushed for 171 yards to go with his five TDs.

"I never thought scoring five touchdowns was possible," Teorsky said.
