BUTLER TWP — Taylor Troyan dived to her right, she leaped to her left. She got her gloved hands on every sharp kick sent her way.

Except one.

That was the one that toppled the Butler girls soccer team Monday night.

The freshman goalie was dazzling for the Golden Tornado. She made 11 saves and none were easy.

The only shot that got past her came off the body of Seneca Valley's Kate Kelly 12 minutes into the second half.

The goal broke a scoreless tie and held up as the Raiders finished off the Golden Tornado's season with a 1-0 loss.

"She's just outstanding," said first-year Butler coachSara Lettrich "For being a freshman, she's just tremendous. I can't ask of anything more from her. She's just amazing. She anchors our defense. She's just so tough."

Seneca Valley's offensive pressure was just a little tougher.

The Raiders (16-2, 12-1) peppered Troyan with 19 shots in the contest — 12 in the second half.

Troyan was mostly up to the challenge.

Seneca Valley coach Dave Sylvester has seen a lot of good goalkeepers in his time, but few stack up to Troyan, he said.

"She did a nice job," Sylvester said. "The only freshman keeper I saw that is comparable is (Seneca Valley goalkeeper Keara Lydon) last year. Troyan kept them in the game. There were a couple of shots that most of the time go in."

Lydon didn't have much trouble at her end against Butler. The Golden Tornado (7-10-1, 5-8-1) had some early opportunities that Lydon turned away. In the second half, though, Butler had just one shot on goal.

The Raiders were sluggish in the first half, but were much more aggressive in the final 40 minutes.

The difference?

"I yelled at them," Sylvester said, laughing.

This was a dangerous game for Seneca Valley, which seems to have trouble againstButler in the final contest of the season.

Now, the Raiders will await their playoff seeidng, which will be announced Wednesday.

"I told the girls before we left, 'We have been in this situation many years when we've walked out of here with a tie or a loss and it's really hurt us in the pairing meeting,'" Sylvester said. "'This is their playoff game. Don't just go in there and think they are ready to hand in their stuff.'"

But, with its season over, that's what Butler will do.

Still, Lettrich said the team will go into the offseason with confidence after playing much better down the stretch.

"They played great," Lettrich said. "They gave it their all. I'm so proud of them."
