JACKSON TWP — Coach Ron Butschle couldn't find many positives in the film of Seneca Valley's latest game.

"(North Allegheny) was just the better team," he said about the Tigers' 56-14 win over the Raiders at NexTier Stadium last Friday. "We were outmanned. Sometimes, you can make up for that with great technique or great effort, but that didn't happen for us."

Butschle's mind is now focused on correcting the mistakes that led to that loss, which yielded the second-most points given up in a single game in SV's 44-year history.

"NA started a lot of drives on our side of the 50," he said. "We can't put our defense's back against the wall like that every time."

The Raiders will look to notch their first Northern Six Conference victory of 2008 when they travel to Martorelli Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Friday to face North Hills.

North Hills is off to a 4-1 start, defeating Pine-Richland in double overtime last week, 22-21 in its conference opener.

The Indians have become accustomed to close games. Aside from a 38-0 blowout win over Baldwin in Week 4, North Hills' other three wins, over Mount Lebanon, Penn-Trafford and Pine-Richland, have come by a combined 16 points.

The team's one loss was a 27-26 setback to Bethel Park in Week 3.

"They're North Hills, so you know they're going to be well-coached and play hard," said Butschle.

Indians senior quarterback Justin Heinauer has thrown for 521 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions this season.

Michael Sivak has been the key cog in the running game, tallying 332 yards and four touchdowns on 56 carries.

Though Seneca Valley's offense is capable of big plays any time it takes the field, Butschle wants that kind of play from all three phases of his team.

"From here on out, we have to make some breaks for ourselves, like getting some turnovers and big plays on special teams," he said.

The Raiders have lost five straight at North Hills. They last beat the Indians on their home field in 1997.

"They have the fans yelling down at you from the hill and the band playing while you're warming up," said Butschle. "If you let yourself get caught up in that, that's what they want.

North Hills coach Jack McCurry could not be reached for comment.
