Associated Artists of Butler County has extended its call for art through 8 p.m. Friday for the "Art of Horror" exhibit which will open next week. The over 18 themed show will be exhibited in the Underground Gallery. All artwork must be original and represent anything to do with horror, gothic or suspense. A Gala Reception Costume Party and Artists Reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Art Center, 344 S. An original painting called "Rest Assured" by Butler resident Willie Hobbs commemorating the crash of United Flight 93 in Somerset County on Sept. 11, 2001, is on display in Butler County Commissioner Dale Pinkerton's office in the county government building, 124 W. Diamond St. It will remain there until about 2011. Prints of the painting cost $20, of which 15 percent will be donated to the Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign. Maridon Museum, 322 N. McKean St., features a display of 19 Japanese samurai dolls through 2008, plus its permanent exhibits of hundreds of pieces of ancient and contemporary Asian art as well as Meissen porcelain.
