FOXBURG — A-C Valley crowned a homecoming king and queen Friday night, but the festive mood quickly soured as the Falcons were routed by visiting Punxsutawney, 32-8.

After A-C Valley's Justin Loll fumbled on the opening kickoff, the Chucks scored on a 37-yard run by Nick Wehrle.

Punxsutawney (1-4) had several long series with a mix of runs and passes and the Falcons (0-5) couldn't hold them as the Chucks scored again with 3:45 left in the first quarter to take a 12-0 lead.

Penalties were the only things that slowed Punxsutawney. The Chucks had nine penalties for 80 yards, but A-C Valley couldn't take advantage of what Chucks coach Blake Moilan called "dumb penalties."

Despite the infractions, the Punxsutawney running game gouged the Falcons for 343 yards rushing.

It could have been more.

A 64-yard touchdown run by Wehrle was negated by a penalty.

But on the next play, 6-foot-3 and 195-pound Ben Blazavich raced down the field for a score to make the lead 26-0.

Punxsutawney kept pounding away at the Falcons, and, at 11:53 of the fourth quarter, it scored another touchdown.

A-C Valley did put together a nice drive that was capped by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Michael Orrvik to Dillon Montgomery with 4:13 left in the game. Montgomery tacked on the 2-point conversion for the Falcons.

A-CValley had another chance to score when the Chucks fumbled on their first play from scrimmage following the Falcons' TD, but A-C Valley could not convert.

"We deserved the win. It was a long road," Moilan said before getting drenched in sports drink. "A-CValley played a heck of a game. We will savor the win for a few days and then get ready for next week's game."

A-C Valley coach Gary Pinkerton was disappointed in his team's passing game.

"If we could have connected (on a few more passes), it could have been a closer game," Pinkerton said.

The coach also said he is still waiting for his team to "figure out how to play the entire game."

Notes: Chucks quarterback Logan Weaver was injured in the first half and did not return. ... The Falcons junior varsity team is traveling to play in Punxsutawney Monday. It is the first road junior varsity game during Pinkerton's tenure. "I'm happy because the program seems to be growing," he said.
