KNOX — Karns City continued its winning ways, improving to 5-0 in the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference after Friday's 63-7 football victory over Keystone.

Eight different Gremlins reached the end zone and Karns City coach Ed Conto said his offensive line has something to do with that.

"I think the offensive line played great tonight. They gave a chance for whoever was carrying the ball to do well," Conto said.

The tone was set on the Gremlins' first play from scrimmage when senior quarterback Anthony Stimac found junior fullback Jake Wagner for a 31-yard touchdown pass.

The Panthers responded with an impressive 11-play, 90-yard drive that was capped by a 4-yard run by junior running back Zach Smith.

"We used a few inside plays with some option plays that got us 8 to 10 yards and also mixed in a few passes," said Keystone coach Jason Nellis.

After that drive, Karns City buckled down and began to put the game away.

On the third play of the Gremlins' ensuing drive, Stimac found daylight for a 53-yard touchdown run.

Then a bad snap by the Panthers on fourth down gave Karns City excellent field position on the Keystone 1-yard line. Levi Buck, a Karns City senior fullback, pounded through the line for a touchdown, making the score 21-7 with 3:09 remaining in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Karns City continued its dominance.

At one point in the quarter, the Gremlins scored on three consecutive offensive plays. The first was on a touchdown pass from Stimac to junior wide receiver Brandon Collier.

On the next offensive play, Stimac threw his third touchdown pass of the night, finding senior wide receiver Dan Wolf for a 23-yard score.

The next time Karns City touched the ball, Markus LaVan broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run.

Josh Grenninger added a 22-yard field goal to make the score 44-7.

Despite Keystone's offensive struggles, Zach Smith rushed for 62 yards on 11 carries in the first half.

"He used to be an outside runner, but we found out last week he can go between the tackles," said Nellis.

Conto complimented Smith saying, "He's a tough back, probably the best back we played all year."

In the second half, Stimac scored again, this time on a 3-yard run. By the time his night was done, he produced five touchdowns: three through the air and two on the ground.

In the fourth quarter, Karns City senior running back Nick Reed scored on a 1-yard run, and sophomore quarterback Zack Barney finished off the game with a 21-yard keeper around the right side for a touchdown.

"We were real pleased with several areas of our game, including our downfield blocking and our special teams tonight," Conto said. "But we always want to continue to improve. We still need to fix a few mistakes on defense."

Karns City will put its undefeated record on the line next week against Redbank Valley, which also 5-0.

Notes: Gremlins senior kicker Grenninger scored nine points on six extra points and a field goal. ... Keystone had only three seniors listed on its roster, compared to 23 for Karns City. ... Karns City's Josh Stimac left the game at halftime with an ankle injury and Josh Callender did not play at all due to a shoulder injury.
