Woman dies in Rt. 422 collision

Car slides under tractor-trailer

MAHONING TWP, Lawrence County — A Beaver County woman, whose parents live in Cranberry Township, died Tuesday when the car in which she was a passenger slid under a tractor-trailer on Route 422.

Whitney Jo Maguire, 21, of Ambridge, the daughter of David and Jeanie O'Brien, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief James Morris of the Northwest Lawrence Regional Police Department said this morning the car, which was driven by Shawn Geisinger, 22, of Tarentum in Allegheny County, turned from Route 551 onto Route 422 into the path of the eastbound truck driven by Daniel Hill, 33, of Brackenridge in Allegheny County about 7 p.m.

Morris said the front end of the car slid between the tractor's back wheels and the trailer's first set of wheels.

The car's front passenger side, where Maguire was sitting, then bounced off the trailer's wheels.

Morris said the impact killed Maguire.

The car then spun back onto the road, colliding with a westbound vehicle driven by Cory Hanna, 17, of Edinburgh in Lawrence County.

Maguire's 2-year-old son and Geisinger were treated for minor injuries at Jameson Hospital in New Castle.

Hill, Hanna and Hanna's three passengers did not report any injuries.

No charges were filed as of today, but Morris said the investigation into the cause isn't completed yet.

Route 422 was closed for five hours while emergency crews cleared the scene. State police and volunteer fire departments assisted at the scene.

Maguire's husband, Daniel Maguire is formerly of Butler.
