CHERRY TWP — Numbers don't drive Tyler Armagost.

Letters do motivate the Moniteau quarterback, though. Mainly the letter "W."

Against A-C Valley Friday night, Armagost put up a lot of numbers and yet another "W" in the Warriors' 40-0 victory.

The senior surpassed 4,000 career passing yards in the win, completing 11 of 18 for 211 yards and three scores — all in the first half.

It was one of the few times he allowed himself to savor his statistics.

"It means a lot to me, actually," Armagost said. "I'm looking for 5,000 at the end of the year, but 4,000 is a lot. It's a big accomplishment for me. I've had a lot of great receivers over the years."

Armagost has found another one in Tony Campbell.

Armagost and Campbell hooked up five times for 145 yards and touchdowns covering 5, 42 and 18 yards as the Warriors built a 40-0 halftime lead and cruised in the second half with many starters resting on the sideline.

Campbell, a junior, has become Armagost's favorite target.

"Basically, he's just faster than everyone," Armagost said. "He's always open. Plus, he's taller, so he's easy to see."

Yards were hard to come by for A-C Valley, particularly on the ground.

But that's nothing new for teams facing the Moniteau defense, which has been stout against the run. A-C Valley had minus-4 yards rushing Friday night.

Most of the losses were on quarterback sacks. A-C Valley quarterback Michael Orrvick was effective at times throwing the ball — he hit on his first four passes for 53 yards — but was sacked four times for 32 yards.

Orrvick finished the contest with 67 yards passing.

Luke Walker did a little bit of everything again for the Falcons. He completed a pass for 32 yards to Dillon Montgomery in the fourth quarter, rushed for 19 yards and caught two passes for 15 yards.

He had a 17-yard touchdown run negated by a penalty late in the game.

A-C Valley (0-4) showed it had some big-play potential againstMoniteau, threatening to score after a 42-yard pass play down to the Moniteau 12 in the first quarter, but the Falcons could not finish the drive.

"If you really think about it, until midway through the second quarter, we're playing with them," said A-C Valley coach Gary Pinkerton. "We struggle with not knowing how to continue to play at that level."

A-C Valley, which had 22 players in uniform, lost one of them on a scary play in the second quarter.

Evan Wagner was covering a punt return when Armagost blocked him. The hit could be heard in the press box.

Wagner laid on the field for 30 minutes until an ambulance transported him to Butler Memorial Hospital. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

"I haven't heard anything yet," Pinkerton said. "He did go into convulsions. It was very scary for everyone. ... He gives 100 percent on the field. It was just one of those unfortunate things that happen."

Looking on with concern, Armagost was particularly affected by the hit.

"I felt really bad for him," Armagost said. "But there was nothing I could do. I just hope he's doing well."

Moniteau (4-0) spent the rest of the game working on some things it will surely need down the stretch.

Ten Warriors carried the ball at least once, and five gained at least 20 yards.

Dakota Campbell led the ground attack with 50 yards on four carries. Even offensive and defensive tackle Zane Slater got in on the action with a 5-yard scoring run.

"The plan was to keep everyone fresh and rotate people," said Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell. "Our plan was to work on our inside running game and our downfield passing game, and we did that."
