IN BRIEF

IMPERIAL — A meeting to gauge interest in natural gas drilling on Pittsburgh International Airport property drew 19 potential bidders.

The authority that runs the airport wants at least $4.5 million over the first 18 months, plus 25 percent future royalties, for the right to drill on about 9,000 acres it manages.

The county wants gas exploration companies to submit their bids by Oct. 8.

The authority wants to use the money to maintain and improve the airport.

BRADFORD — Zippo has laid off 80 employees, citing improved efficiencies and operating capabilities. The company had laid off 35 workers in June, citing a decline in business. Thursday's layoff accounted for more than 15 percent of its workforce.
