WHITEHALL — C.J. Brown finally seems to have met his match.

It's himself.

For the second straight week, the Seneca Valley senior quarterback managed to record even more impressive numbers than the week before.

Brown threw for 266 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 87 and two additional scores in SV's 42-7 thumping of host Baldwin Friday night.

"We had a feeling that (Baldwin) would drop players and have less in the box and they did," Brown said. "They didn't do much blitzing."

The fireworks started when the Raiders' Matt Plautz returned the opening kickoff 58 yards to the Highlanders 31-yard line before snagging Brown's first scoring pass of the game on the next play.

Will Hugo kicked the first of six extra points and the Raiders were off and running.

After forcing a three-and-out from Baldwin's offense, Brown capped a 16-play, 58-yard drive with a sneak from a yard out for a 14-0 lead.

The Highlanders (0-3) managed to move the ball 31 yards on their second series, but the drive stalled on SV's 43 and Baldwin decided to punt.

Brown and Plautz hooked up again from 13 yards out with 7:08 left in the first half as the Raiders took control of the game.

Brown's second scoring run came late in the second quarter when he faked a dive play to Tyler Mack and sprinted around right end and outraced the Baldwin defense for 84 yards.

Just for good measure, he added a 50-yard scoring strike to Pete Vicente on the final play of the second quarter.

"C.J. was able to make some plays tonight," said Raiders coach Ron Butschle. "And the players around him played well, too. On that long touchdown run, the line blocked well and the receivers blocked well."

Brown's numbers at the break included 195 passing yards, 94 rushing yards and five total touchdowns to go along with a 35-0 lead.

"I know (Brown) is a good quarterback, but they did anything they wanted," said Baldwin coach Dan Pallante. "We simply need to play better defense than that.

"Defenses are trying different things to stop us, but it makes it tough on them when we can run and pass," said Brown. "Our line played really well tonight. Everything's working for us."

The mercy-rule clock took effect at the start of the second half.

Baldwin scored at the beginning of the final period on a 5-yard pass from Quinn Hood to Ron Harris.

Brown and Vicente teamed up on one final aerial from 50 yards to close the scoring with 6:01 to play.

The Highlanders had gone with Jordan Joyce at quarterback in their first two games, but moved Hood from fullback to under center Friday.

"We couldn't move the ball an inch in our first two games (losses to Shaler and Gateway)," said Pallante. "If anything, we know who our quarterback is. We're sticking with Hood."

Plautz caught six passes for 101 yards and Vicente three for 116.

Mack left the game with an injury in the third quarter.

"He took a hard shot on the leg, but he walked off the field after the game," said Butschle. "I think he'll be all right."

The Raiders (2-1) host Knoch (1-2) next Friday.
