Ashley Paganie scored a goal and added two assists Wednesday as the 13th-ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team defeated Clarion, 3-1.

Paganie assisted on goals by Alison Hindley and Julianna Howell before scoring an unassisted tally herself. Sarah Lacy and Lauren McManus shared time in goal for The Rock (2-0).

SRU hosts Edinboro at 2 p.m. Saturday at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Junior forward Jeremy Deighton had a goal and assist as SRU defeated West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-0, in Buckhannon, W.Va.Deighton set up the game-winning goal by sophomore forward Lucas Feathers. Greg Blum got the shutout in goal for The Rock (1-1).SRU hosts Ohio Valley University at 4 p.m. Saturday at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The Rock dropped its PSACWest opener, 3-1, at Mercyhurst despite Kaylee Smith's 15 kills.All-region performer Jen Blasko added 10 kills, 10 digs and two aces for SRU. Kim Wilson had 16 assists and Anna Bixler had 13 assists and 13 digs.SRUwon the first game 25-22, then lost 25-22, 25-21 and 25-13 decisions. The Rock returns to Mercyhurst today to begin the two-day Laker Invitational.Field HockeyJennifer Venet scored the game winning goal with 5½ minutes into overtime to give the Slippery Rock University field hockey team a 4-3 victory over Seton Hill Thursday.With the win, SRU (2-1) has doubled its win total for each of the previous two seasons.The Rock's field hockey team hosts Indiana (Pa.) at noon Saturday at the stadium.
