MUDDY CREEK TWP — Moraine State Park will host the following community programs:

• "Historic Oil Well Operation," opening at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and Oct. 4 and 5. The central powerhouse site is beyond the Region 2 office building on Park Road, Old 422, off Route 528.

• "Guide to Geocaching," 2:30 p.m. Sept. 13. Meet the park naturalist at the Pleasant Valley picnic area, on the South Shore.

• "Who Let the Dogs Out?" 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20. Join the park naturalist at the Pleasant Valley picnic area on the South Shore of Moraine for a moderate two mile hike with canine friends, followed by a doggie swim in Lake Arthur. Pets must be on a leash at all times.

• "Explore Off Shore," 2 p.m. Sept. 20. Meet the park naturalist at the Pleasant Valley launch on the South Shore. Participants may take their own kayak, or borrow one of Moraine's kayaks. To reserve a kayak or register, call the park office at 724-368-8811. Participants who use park kayaks must be at least 12 years old. An adult must accompany those participants who are younger than 18.

• "Learn to Play Disc Golf," 1:30 p.m. Oct. 4. Meet park staff at the course on the North Shore at the Lakeview Beach area. This event is open to individuals age 8 and older.

• "Family Fishing Program," 1 p.m. Oct. 11. This fun and educational program will be held at the McDanel's Launch on the North Shore. Participants are not required to have a fishing license.

• "Beauty of Fall Hike," 9 a.m. Oct. 18. Meet the park naturalist at the park office on the South Shore for a moderate, three-mile hike to view the changing colors.

• "Kayaking in Color," 1:30 p.m. Oct. 18 and 9:30 a.m. Oct. 25. Meet the park naturalist at the Pleasant Valley launch on the South Shore to kayak among the beautiful natural scenery. Take your own kayak, or reserve one of Moraine's kayaks free. Participants who use park kayaks must be at least age 12. An adult must accompany those participants who are younger than 18. • "Fall Foliage Cruise," 2 p.m. Oct. 25. Meet the park naturalist at the Davis Hollow Marina office on the North Shore to experience the park's shift from summer into fall on one of Moraine's pontoon boats. Space is limited. Reserve a place by calling 724-368-8811. This is a free program for all ages.
