Virginia Catherine "Tootie" Mellish, 86, of Chicora went to be with the Lord at 9:45 a.m. Friday at Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg.

Born in Donegal Township, Chicora, on June 12, 1922, she was the daughter of Earl H. and Catherine O'Donnell Hays.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking and her grandsons.

Virginia was a former member of St. Patrick Church, Sugarcreek, until the church closed, and she had also been a member of the altar society of the church. She was presently a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora.

She is survived by one son, Anthony R. Mellish of Eau Claire; two grandsons, Joshua and Stephen Mellish; one sister, Mary Edna Rodgers of Carbon Center; three brothers, Charles Hays of Davison, Mich., Harold Hays of Detroit, Mich., and Regis Hays of Lake George, Mich.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She married Edward A. Mellish on May 24, 1941, and he died April 12, 1994.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Slippery Rock St., Chicora.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mater Dolorosa Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. David DeWitt, pastor, officiating.
