Richard J. "Rick" Barkus, 47, of McCandless Township died Monday morning at his home.

Born Aug. 26, 1960, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Mary Ann Smith Barkus of Mars and the late Robert R. Barkus Sr.

He was the owner of Barkus Bakery in Bellevue for the past 12 years.

He was a volunteer at Animal Friends on Camp Horn Road in Pittsburgh.

A former member of St. Kilian Church in Mars, he was an avid hiker, artist, photographer, cook and gardener.

He will be missed as he was loved greatly.

Surviving are his wife, Laurie Davis Barkus, who he married March 18, 2000; his mother, Mary Ann Smith Barkus of Mars; four sisters, Linda Faltenovich (William) of Cranberry Township, Daina Regis (Robert) of Valencia, Marianne Sullivan (Mike) of Cranberry Township, and Jacquelynn Holmes (Daric) of Mars; three brothers, Robert R. Barkus Jr. (Pam) of Butler, Gary Barkus (Janet) of Valencia, and Matthew Barkus of Mars; he was the son-in-law of Sue Driver of Wexford; brother-in-law of William J. Davis Jr. (Judith) of Ann Arbor, Mich., Gail Davis Jones (Tony) of Westlake, Ohio, and Anne C. Davis of Pittsburgh; and his nieces and nephews.

<B>BARKUS</B> — Friends of Richard J. "Rick"Barkus, who died Monday, July 29, 2008, will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home Inc.</B>, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church in Mars.
