Bodil 'Bea' Fara
Bodil "Bea" Tokheim Fara, 78, of Elm Street, Slippery Rock passed away at noon Saturday following an extended illness.
Born Bodil Tokheim in Odda, Norway, Dec. 13, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Olav and Gunhild Bjune Tokheim.
She studied and worked in Norway and England. She came to the United States in 1955 to study at the University of Illinois. There she met and married Harry David Fara, a physics doctoral student. Later, she married Dr. Ronald Campisi and came to Slippery Rock, where he taught Spanish and French at Slippery Rock University
She earned degrees in philosophy and library science and earned a teacher's certification. She was a thesis away from a master's degree in history. For many years she was a teacher, librarian and landlord. In her later years she attended several courses at Slippery Rock University's Institute of Learning in Retirement and was in the process of writing a biography of a famous Norwegian photographer, K. Knudsen, a relative.
She was an avid fan and supporter of the arts and humanitarian causes. She enjoyed many kinds of music, and her hobbies included gardening, reading and following the political scene.
Surviving are a daughter, Nicole Renee Fara of Slippery Rock; a sister, Marit Hammerud of Gran, Norway; and a niece, nephews and cousins also living in Norway.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mark Olav Fara.
<B>FARA</B> — A memorial service for Bodil "Bea" Tokheim Fara, who died Saturday, July 26, 2008, will be observed at 5 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Slippery Rock Alliance Church, 530 Keister Road, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Joseph Barth presiding. Refreshments will follow in the social hall of the church.Memorial contributions may be given to the Slippery Rock University Library or the Slippery Rock Community Library.Arrangements are being handled by the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, Slippery Rock.
