Yellowjackets fly to win over Kittanning
FREEPORT — The first game of the Freeport High football season was a decisive 21-7 win over Kittaning at Schwartz Field Friday night.
First-year coach John Galliot led the Yellowjackets to their first 2008 victory by relying on junior quarterback Alex Isenberg and junior running back Austin Shockey.
Freeport opened the scoring on a 37-yard pass from Isenberg to running back Andy Teorsky with 5:15 left in the first quarter.
Not to be outdone, the Wildcats answered with a solid series that concluded with a 49-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ross Harmon to running back John Lsher with 3:25 remaining in the first quarter.
After that, the defenses took over and dominated the rest of the first half.
In the second half, the Yellowjackets started to roll and never lost momentum as the Wildcats struggled to put together an adequate series of plays.
At the end of the third quarter, Freeport scored again on a 10-yard pass from Isenberg to Teorsky.
Still, the Wildcats put up a fight, but the Yellowjackets' defense thwarted any attempt at a rally.
With 1:51 remaining in the fourth quarter, Freeport sealed its victory on a 26-yard pass from Isenberg to Tyler Collins.
"I wanted them to play with heart, to play every snap like it was a playoff game," Gaillot said.
The coach couldn't decide on who should get the game ball.
"All of them," he said. "We don't play as individuals, we're a team. All 43 of them should get that ball."
