Kaclik carries Mars vs. Moon
MOON TWP — Shane Kaclik carried 15 times for 138 yards and scored two touchdowns to power Mars to a 35-0 Class AAA nonconference football victory over Moon Friday.
The Planets scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to build an insurmountable 28-0 advantage.
Kaclik, who rushed for 542 yards on 73 carries and eight touchdowns as the Planets' second option to 2,000-yard rusher Bill Bair last year, scored on runs of 17 and 10 yards.
Sophomore Austin Miele also shined, scoring on a 14-yard run and a 32-yard pass play from quarterback John Brake.
Brake struck paydirt on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to close out the scoring for Mars (1-0).
Moon committed four turnovers and its offense was held under 90 yards of total offense. Mars rolled up 331 yards.
The game marked the first shutout by the Planets since they blanked Riverside 21-0 in Week 2 last season.
Mars intercepted two passes in the victory.
Moon is coming off a 1-9 season last fall, avoiding a winless season by defeating Elizabeth Forward in its final game of the campaign.
The Planets (1-0) play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, when they host Hopewell.
